Integrated Performance by Additive Manufacturing - Keynote by AMC Mercator Fellow Michela Turrin
Wednesday, July 16, 2025: 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM
High-performance buildings emerge from an integrated design approach initiated at the earliest stages. This keynote will explore how the intersection of architectural design and building technology can be redefined through additive manufacturing. We will present case studies from recent projects—ranging from 3D-printed, topology-optimised façade panels to bio-based, wood-derived window frame prototypes—that harness AM to meet technical demands such as thermal regulation, acoustic insulation, structural resilience, and daylight control. By leveraging computational simulation, topology optimisation pipelines, and hybrid material strategies, the designs transcend compliance with technical requirements; they embed performance as a creative driver. Highlights include cellular façade systems with integrated fluidic thermal storage (Spong3D), phase-change-material-infused Trombe walls (Double Face 2.0), and advanced wood-based extruded components—all demonstrating the transformative power of design-functional hybridisation through AM.
This registration will be open till Monday, July 14, 2025.
